Started
by what may have seemed to be your average 19 year old, ready to make her
dreams come true. Thrifty Stick began from the idea of a store that offered
everyone who wanted snowboard equipment the ability to get it at a reasonable
price. Out of a little tiny storage closet office in an apartment across town,
a dream became a reality.
The
name? Well "Thrifty Stick" came about in a conversation between
Kendra and Conrad, her old boss at BC Surf and Sport. When Conrad started
snowboarding the boards were called "sticks." Sort of like, "hey
man, let's grab our sticks and hit the hill." And, well...the thrifty part
just made sense. From there Thrifty Stick was born.
In
August of '98 the first location of Thrifty Stick was found. A quaint little
space, located next to a liquor store and across from ARC thrift store on
Broadway. Carrying only the best of thrift randomness and offering an
affordable alternative to a quickly growing expensive hobby. You can see it in
Kendra's eyes as she talks about all the love and dedication that has been put
into making TS what it is today. Remembering the reps scoff as they walked into
the store, "hmmm..I don't know that our product is the right fit."
and " great idea but not sure if it'll work." but those downs and
doubts didn't stop her. She pushed through spending nights sleeping at the
store, fighting the days praying, "God, if you want me to be here I need
to make X amount of money today." And of course...that day to the penny
that amount would be made. In a "we're so rad" industry of young reps
it wasn't easy, but it wasn't impossible either and Kendra knew that. And as
time went on TS has developed into a place that all riders can call home.
...and
today. A single mom of two beautiful daughters and proud owner of what is
denvers top local boardshop. And what might be the only female owned skate shop
in the U.S. It's a place anyone would be proud to be a part of!
So
get in here...meet the crew....and become a part of the TS Family.
